Psoriasis

Psoriasis is a chronic, non-contagious, sometimes painful, and disabling disease with no cure and which has a significant negative impact on patients’ quality of life (QoL).  Psoriasis affects 125 million people worldwide. Plaque psoriasis is the most common variant, accounting for more than 80% of the psoriasis cases. Psoriasis affects men and women equally, and it affects adults more than children. Topical treatment is the mainstay of psoriasis treatment with over 85% of patients receiving treatment using topical drugs. Increasing evidence has shown that itch is one of the most prevalent and burdensome symptoms associated with psoriasis, affecting almost every patient to some degree. Itch can involve the entire body, although it predominantly affects the legs, hands, back, body and especially the scalp. Uncontrolled itch can significantly impact all aspects of the well-being and quality of life. Source: JEADV 2019 vol. 33Most patients with psoriasis have some detriment to their quality of life attributable to the disease, and many feel a negative effect on their psychosocial wellbeing. A greater psychological effect occurs among those with extensive psoriasis or with involvement of functionally crucial areas. Compared with the general population, patients with psoriasis are more likely to be depressed. Source: Lancet 2021, vol. 397

Patients need therapies that quickly and effectively reduce the plaque and itch (within 1-2 weeks) and can be easily used in daily routines. Poor adherence has historically been a major problem for topical treatments, resulting in suboptimal treatment effects in real-world settings. The main reason for this is that most potent topicals that are suitable for long term use are greasy or difficult to apply. Wynzora® Cream (calcipotriene and betamethasone dipropionate) 0.005%/0.064%

To address the unmet needs, MC2 Therapeutics developed Wynzora® Cream, a cream-based fixed dose combination of calcipotriol (“CAL”) and betamethasone dipropionate (“BDP”) for topical treatment of plaque psoriasis, including scalp psoriasis in adults. Its dual mode of action of CAL and BDP provides fast onset and high efficacy through targeting the hallmark cytokines IL-23 and IL-17A/F immune axis and TNF-α expression in a single product with a favourable safety profile. Wynzora® Cream is uniquely enabled by MC2’s formulation and drug delivery system PAD Technology™, which allows for a convenient-to-use aqueous cream formulation that releases the full potential of the actives.
